If your computer has stopped working in Eustis, you do not have to drive it anywhere — and there is a fair chance you do not have to pay anyone at all. I am Rad, and I have been repairing phones, tablets and computers across Lake County since 2018. I come to your address in Eustis with the tools and common parts already with me, the diagnosis is free, the price is fixed before I start, and there is no call-out fee anywhere in Lake County. But work through the free checks below first: a good share of the “my computer is broken” calls I take turn out to be something the owner could have fixed in ten minutes.
Eustis is at the north end of the county, which has always been the awkward part of getting a computer fixed here: the nearest counters are a drive, and a drive means two trips, with your files on someone else’s bench in between. The rest of this page is about the part that matters more — what is actually wrong with your computer, and whether it is worth money.
The computer problems I get called out for most in Eustis
It has become unbearably slow
This is the most common computer call I take anywhere in Lake County, and nine times out of ten the machine is not worn out: it has a mechanical hard drive acting as the bottleneck, or the drive is nearly full, or it is quietly failing. Swapping that drive for an SSD is the biggest single improvement you can make to an older machine, at a fraction of the cost of a new one — a seven-year-old laptop that takes four minutes to reach the desktop will often boot in under twenty seconds afterwards. If instead it is slow because it is full of software you did not install, that is a clean-up job rather than a parts job, and it costs less.
It will not turn on
“Will not turn on” describes at least four faults that do not cost the same to fix: a dead charger, a dead battery, a failed screen and a failed board all look identical from the outside. Two of them you can rule out yourself in five minutes — the walkthrough is in six things to check before you pay for a laptop repair, and it can save you a call-out entirely.
The screen is cracked, black or showing lines
These are among the better repairs to have: on most Windows laptops the panel unclips from the lid as a separate part, which keeps the cost sensible and means I can usually do it at your table in under an hour. One useful test — if the picture is fine on an external monitor but the built-in screen is dark, the panel or its cable has failed and the job is straightforward.
Something was spilled on it
Liquid is the one where speed decides the outcome. Shut it down, unplug it, and do not plug it back in to see whether it still works — that is what kills boards. Then get it opened and cleaned quickly, because the damage is done by corrosion over the following days, not by the liquid itself.
Free checks worth running before you pay anybody
- Check how full the drive is. A Windows machine with under about 10 percent free behaves like a broken one, and clearing space costs nothing.
- Try a different charger and wall socket. Chargers fail far more often than laptops do, and a frayed one at the plug end is a giveaway.
- Hold the power button down for thirty seconds with the charger unplugged, then plug in and try again. This revives a lot of dead-looking laptops.
- Plug in a monitor or television via HDMI. If you get a picture, the computer is alive and only the screen has gone.
- If it will not get online, check your phone too. If that is struggling as well, the fault is the router or the line — a call to your provider, not a repair.
- Listen. Rhythmic clicking or grinding from an older machine is a hard drive failing. Get your files copied off today, not next week.
When a computer is not worth repairing
I would rather lose the job than take money for a machine that will not give you another two years. My rough rule: a repair should cost under about half of a comparable replacement.
- A failed board on an old laptop is usually the end. Board-level work costs real money, and on a cheap machine it rarely makes sense.
- Two faults at once is a signal. A cracked screen plus a dead battery on an eight-year-old laptop adds up past the value of the thing.
- Windows 10 stopped receiving security updates on 14 October 2025. If your machine cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 it is not useless, but that changes the maths on spending a few hundred dollars on it.
If the answer is “replace it”, I will still move your files onto the new machine — usually the part people are really worried about.
What I can finish at your table, and what has to come away
Most computer work I complete on-site in one visit: drive and SSD upgrades, memory, laptop screens, keyboards, batteries, cooling clean-outs, charging ports on many models, operating system repairs, virus removal and file transfers. Desktops, all-in-ones and Macs are all in scope — the full list is on the computer repair in Lake County page.
Some things cannot sensibly be done in a living room, and I will say so rather than attempt them: board-level micro-soldering, liquid damage needing an ultrasonic clean, and physically failed drives where the data matters. For those the machine comes with me, or you can post it in through mail-in repair.
How a repair in Eustis actually runs
You call 407-914-2391 or send the details through the instant repair quote form and describe what the machine is doing. I can often name the likely fault over the phone, and if it is something free I will say so there and then. Otherwise I come to your address in Eustis and diagnose it in front of you at no charge, then quote a fixed price before anything is opened. If you do not want to go ahead, you pay nothing and I leave. Most jobs are finished in that visit, and parts and labour carry a 90-day warranty.
Hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The whole area I cover is on the service locations page, and for a phone rather than a computer there is a dedicated Eustis phone repair page. For a sense of cost, see the repair prices page and my guide to what computer repair costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge to come out to Eustis?
No. There is no call-out or travel fee anywhere in Lake County, and the diagnosis is free. You get a fixed price before any work starts, and if you decide not to go ahead you pay nothing.
Can a computer be repaired at my house, or does it have to go to a workshop?
Most jobs are finished on-site in one visit — drives and SSD upgrades, memory, screens, keyboards, batteries, fans, software repairs and file transfers. Board-level soldering, liquid damage needing an ultrasonic clean and physically failed drives have to leave, and I tell you which you have before we book.
How much does computer repair cost in Eustis?
It depends almost entirely on whether the job needs a part. Software and clean-up work is predictable; a screen or a drive adds the cost of that part, which varies by model. Call 407-914-2391 with the make and model and you get a firm number rather than a range.
Is it worth fixing a laptop that cannot run Windows 11?
Sometimes. Windows 10 stopped receiving security updates on 14 October 2025, so a machine stuck on it carries more risk than it used to, particularly for banking and email. A cheap repair such as an SSD may still be money well spent; a few hundred dollars on it is harder to justify.
Can you get my files off a computer that will not start?
Usually yes. If the drive is healthy and only the computer has failed, recovering the files is routine and I can copy them to an external drive or onto a replacement machine. If the drive is clicking or grinding it needs a specialist recovery lab, and I will tell you so rather than take payment for an attempt that could make things worse.
